Hostel Anton’s base is in Tivat Montenegro, a town situated in the middle of Boka Kotorska bay (Boka Bay/ Bocca di Cattaro). Boka Kotorska is a large coastal inlet of the Adriatic Sea, formed by the partial submergence of the former Bokelj River which used to run from the high mountain plateaus of Mount Orjen above the bay. Tivat has a convenient position at the heart of the bay, giving easy access to many interesting locations and important places to visit (Kotor, Budva, Podgorica, Herceg Novi, Dubrovnik, Žabljak and more).
Hostel Anton is situated just 7 km from Kotor (a UNESCO world heritage listed town), 20 km from the beaches of Budva and 18 km from Herceg Novi. We are 3 km from the Tivat airport and 2 km from the bus station. The nearest Railway station is located in Sutomore, 60 km from Tivat. The capital of Montenegro, Podgorica, is 88 km away. The Croatian border is just 25 km away with gorgeous Dubrovnik being only a 60 km drive from us. The border of Bosnia and Herzegovina is 30 km distance, Albania 100 km and 180 km to Serbia.
Our Hostel is situated 500 meters from the sea. Public transportation is reliable and cheap, but we can always provide you with a car or bike to rent, or a taxi. Tivat Bay has great beaches and beach bars some of which are in a walking distance from our Hostel.
The unique atmosphere of the Adriatic coast, and our position on it serves to attract musicians, painters, writers, traveling theatre groups, jewelry makers and all kinds of unique people. This is partly due to the geographic position of our house, which has a huge, breathtaking sea view and a green garden. Our oriental-style gazebo, the full bar and banana, orange and fig-trees help in the creation of this small, hidden paradise (at least we think so). Also, we prefer to make things on our own and we collect antique stuff. The Hostel was also built from the bricks of the hundred-year-old house that belonged to my grandfather Anton (yes, therefore the name). If you a appreciate unique, creative atmosphere, you will enjoy our hostel, for sure. You will have an opportunity to hear a variety of bands and solo musicians play at the Hostel, as well as see people painting or making jewelry. This is a living place! You can always get plenty of rest, of course, and silence too, when needed.
More about Tivat & Boka Bay
Tivat is the youngest town in the Boka region although the name itself goes back to the 3rd century BC. The Tivat area holds many interesting and attractive destinations for visitors. Some of these include the Renaissance Summer House Buca, many old and new churches, Ostrvo Cvijeća (Flowers’ Island) with sacred monuments and a lovely monastery, the old medieval village of Gornja Lastva at an altitude of 300m, as well as the magnificent sandy beaches at Plavi Horizonti, Žanjice and Rose on the Luštica peninsula.
In the city itself there is the local port of Kalimanj and the newer luxury marina Porto Montenegro. Tivat is also the only place on the Montenegrin coast with an airport. There are a number of cultural events throughout the year, such as ‘Bocce Olympiad’ ‘Summer Fest’ and Boka Bay’s own New Years eve in the middle of Summer, ‘Bokeška Noć’ (Boka Night).
